News on the upcoming Curriculum Enrichment Day

On Tuesday 7th March, we have our Curriculum Enrichment Day where students will be off timetable. Each year group will have a different activity, outlined below:

Year 7 – House sport

Year 7 will be partaking in a series of sports in their houses. Pupils will need both games kit and PE kit and should come into school in their kit. This should include boots, trainers and weather appropriate outdoor clothing. We will operate in 3 venues which boys will walk to and from. Normal school hours will be followed. Registration will take place in the Sports Hall.

Year 8 – British values

Year 8 will be attending sessions focussed on promoting and understanding British values. There will be sessions including food, art, democracy and tolerance. Boys should bring a pencil case and register on the back basketball courts.

Year 9 – Business Enterprise Conference

External visitors from Borras Construction, University of Hertfordshire, Herfordshire Business School, Magistrates Court, Metro Bank, The Army, Barclays, Kitbox, The All Together and BT will be in school working with Year 9. The activities to be carried out by the boys will be varied; problem solving activities, team work activities and physical/mental challenges. Further guidance can be found in a separate Year 9 parentmail. All boys should bring a pair of trainers, the Army will be running a physical activity. Registration in the School Hall in the morning.

Year 10 – Religious Studies GCSE

Boys will be utilising the extra curriculum time available to them to explore one of the next units of work within the AQA GCSE specification. Timings of the day will be a little different to normal although we will still finish at 15:00. Boys will register in their first room of the day and they will be given clear instructions where this is in advance.

Boys will need to bring with them a pencil case with AT LEAST four different coloured highlighters, pens or pencils (for highlighting purposes), at least one pencil and one black writing pen. They should also bring their RS exercise book.

Year 11 – English Speaking and Language

Boys should come into school in school uniform for their preparation time. They will need to go to Room 8 at their designated time. They will be performing their Speaking and Listening assessment. This forms part of their GCSE English Language examination. Boys can use prompt cards during their speech if they would like to and these can be brought into the assessment session. In addition to their assessment, boys will be expected to complete the poetry analysis task on Show My Homework. This should be handed to their class teacher during their first English lesson after CED.

Year 12 – Facing the Future preparation

Students will be continuing with their research on post 18 options and will begin to prepare for the Facing the Future interview event which will take place in the Summer term. Students will be drafting personal statements and will have the opportunity to discuss their future career and study plans with members of the Sixth Form team. There will also be a talk from a member of Birmingham University.

Students require a pencil case and will register in the Sixth Form centre in the morning and in the School Hall in the afternoon.

Year 13 – Subject intervention and yoga

Students will have intervention sessions to ensure they are making good progress in all subjects in preparation for their A Level examinations. Yoga sessions will run throughout the day – additional guidance will be sent in a separate parentmail. Registration will take place in their subject intervention.

Can I also remind all students to bring their smart cards into school on this day to avoid any issues at break and lunch time.
